American I-Dull Continues

After the lowest rating for a final four show last week the boredom continues. This week the final three had the judges choose a song, the contestants themselves choose a song, and then they preformed a song the producers choose for them.

I have to say with so many song choices I was hopeful that there would be some excitement injected into the night. But every song fell into being predictable and boring.

David “the teenager” Archuleta sang three songs that are for a lack of a better phrase “old” for a teenager. David sang Paula’s choice: Billy Joel’s “And So It Goes”; his choice: Chris Brown’s “With You”; and the producer’s choice: Dan Fogelberg’s “Longer.” He should be singing fun upbeat songs that display youth, and excitement. How many ballads will he sing, that is all he sings. Honestly if he wins there is no way that he will have a successful career because he is just a cabaret singer.

Syesha “the actress” Mercado approached the night as if she was trying out for a Broadway play. Randy had Syesha start the night with “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys, then she choose Peggy Lee’s “Fever,” and the producers choose “Hit Me Up” by Gia Farrell. There is no way if she continues down this path that she could have a successful career as a recording artist. This is not to say that she will not have a successful career; I think she would be great on Broadway, but that is as far as it goes.

David “the bartender” Cook, I-Dull’s resident rocker seemed to be the only one trying win last night. Simon choose Roberta Flack’s “First Time I Ever Saw Your Face,” then he choose Swtichfoot’s “Dare You to Move” for himself and the producers choose “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” for David. He performed them all only as David Cook could, as a rock star, but that was predictable and not very entertaining. There was a time on this show David introduced us to new arrangements to popular songs, he was being very original and now that is gone. What saved the night for David was that Simon said that he had “won” the night.

I am no conspiracy theorist but one might have case that show was set up for David Cook to succeed and to have Syesha and David A. fail. Tonight will be another results show, I’ll be sure to flip over for just the last 5 minutes so I can find out who stays and who goes. Maybe the finals will be more exciting…there is always hope.

**UPDATE 5/15**
With Syesha out last night, that leaves the two Davids to battle it out in the finals next week. I think David Cook should win, but given the shows history, David Archuleta will most likely pull it out. Check back to the blog and I’ll give you all the details so you don’t have to waste your time.
